Private Middle School | St. John's Lutheran School

Junior High

St. John’s is passionate about equipping a life with a foundation of faith. Our private middle school offers faith-based core classes and individualized instruction as a result of our small class sizes. Our junior high students are also able to join the athletics program and represent St. John’s at the state and national level for a variety of sports.

Faith Integration and Character Development

Students attend chapel service each Thursday morning and have religion/confirmation (7th-8th grade) classes the other days of the week.  But it doesn’t stop there. We believe that God’s Word speaks into every area of life. Students participate in monthly service and chapel projects. Our teachers are Biblically trained, and our curriculum has an underlying Christian worldview because there is more to life than facts and figures.  Within our curriculum we teach discernment of the Truth, how to interact with friends who have different beliefs, and how to respond with Godly thinking.  We are teaching students to think and act in accordance to Scripture, no matter the subject they are learning or the activity they are participating in.

St. John’s strives to provide an environment conducive to the spiritual growth of young people who are developing in their Christian faith.  St. John’s has adopted the following guidelines which it believes is supportive of the environment that will best promote the academic, social, and spiritual welfare of the students:

  1. I will respect teachers and authorities.
  2. I will respect classmates.
  3. I will respect others personal space and property.
  4. I will be prepared for class and complete all work.
  5. I will follow directions.
  6. I will stay on task and use my time wisely.
  7. I will work cooperatively with others.
  8. I will do my best work and use academic integrity.

Core Classes

Students receive daily instruction in each our core subject areas in a Junior High departmentalized format:

  • Religion
  • Language arts/literature block
  • Math (leveled to help students participate in the level that is right for them)
  • FOSS Science/STEM
  • History

Instruction is provided from a Biblical perspective, drawing meaning for each areas of study from the context of God’s Word. If you would like specific information for a particular grade level, please contact Kendra Gilmore (kendra.gilmore@stjohns-chaska.org).

Specials

We believe in a well-rounded education.  To that end, students have recess and PE three times a week, and attend art, Spanish, flex time, study hall, and computer science twice each week.  Additionally, they go to music and have the opportunity to participate in the band program.   All resource classes are taught by teachers who specialize in their field.

Technology

Each private middle school student in the Junior High is assigned a Chromebook for the year.  Every classroom is fitted with a SMART board and a Chromecast that allows both teacher and students to actively participate in teaching and learning.  Technology is used as a tool to help enhance the curriculum and student outcomes.

Athletics

The Athletic program of St. John’s is dedicated to enriching the lives of its student through sports. Our athletic teams prove that hard work and dedication translates to success on the playing field and on the court. Beyond athletic achievement, the focal point of the program is seeing our student-athletes represent the character of Christ. As we want everyone watching to witness student-athletes who play with passion and purpose.
