Private Elementary School | St. John's Lutheran School

Primary Grades

We believe in equipping a life with a foundation of faith. St. John’s private elementary school teaches a balanced curriculum with a focus on development of the whole child in a positive learning environment. We offer small classroom sizes that gives students a personalized education.

Faith Integration and Character Development

Private elementary school students attend chapel service each Thursday morning and have religion classes the other days of the week.  But it doesn’t stop there.  We believe that God’s Word speaks into every area of life. Students participate in monthly service and chapel projects. Our teachers are Biblically trained, and our curriculum has an underlying Christian worldview because there is more to life than facts and figures.  Within our curriculum we teach discernment of the Truth, how to handle our emotions, and how to respond with Godly thinking and actions.  We are teaching students to think and act in accordance to Scripture, no matter the subject they are learning.

St. John’s strives to provide an environment conducive to the spiritual growth and development of young people who are not yet mature Christians.  St. John’s has adopted the following guidelines which it believes is supportive of the environment that will best promote the academic, social, and spiritual welfare of the students:

  1. I will respect teachers and authorities.
  2. I will respect myself, others, and property.
  3. I will follow directions.
  4. I will do my best work.

Core Classes

Our private elementary school students receive daily instruction in each of our core subject areas: Religion, reading, writing, language, math, FOSS Science/STEM, and social studies.  Instruction is provided from a Biblical perspective, drawing meaning for each areas of study from the context of God’s Word. If you would like specific information for a particular grade level, please contact Kendra Gilmore (kendra.gilmore@stjohns-chaska.org).

Specials

We believe in a well-rounded education.  To that end, students have recess daily, PE three times a week, and attend art, music, Spanish and computer science twice each week.  Additionally, they go to our library once each week.  All resource classes are taught by teachers who specialize in their field.

Technology

Each private elementary school student has access to a Chromebook on a 1:1 basis.  Every classroom is fitted with a SMART board and a Chromecast that allows both teacher and students to actively participate in teaching and learning.  Technology is used as a tool to help enhance the curriculum and student outcomes.
